BICO is implementing a Low Vision Project in Southern Malawi to improve eye health services and inclusive education for children with visual impairments. The project operates in three resource centres: Montfort in Chiradzulu District, Makande in Chikwawa District, and Nazombe in Phalombe District.
With support from the Lions Club of Netherlands, BICO conducts eye assessments for children with refractive errors, low vision conditions, and surgical eye needs. The project also facilitates cataract surgeries and treatment for other eye conditions, while providing optical devices to learners in the targeted resource centres.
In addition, BICO is strengthening inclusive education through the training of teachers and optometrists in basic low vision care and advocacy. The initiative aims to enhance learning opportunities, improve access to eye care services, and support children with visual impairments to achieve better educational outcomes in Malawi.
